EWD Research Project
Perceptually motivated joint time-frequency analysis

Speech Analysis

Below is an example of the EWD analysis of a speech signal '...changed in eighteen seventy five.' spoken by a female subject. Because the EWD incorporates masking effects, the EWD registers perceptually meaningful information only. Although extensive application of the EWD to speech analysis has not yet been conducted, it is proposed that the EWD might be applicable in this area. It might also be applicable as a front-end to a speech recognition algorithm, bypassing perceptually masked signal detail.
