August 2017:
Peter Madden joins the Ahearne lab as a post-doctoral research fellow. Peter has previously worked in both Australia and UK on corneal repair and eye-banking.

June 2017:
Mark, Claire, Julia and Sophia attended TERMIS-EU 2017 in Davos, Switzerland. Mark organized and chaired a session on TERM in Ophthalmology, Claire and Julia gave oral presentations on their research while Sophia presented a poster.

May 2017:
Promita Bhattacharjee joins the Ahearne lab as a post-doctoral research fellow. Promita completed her PhD at IIT Kharagpur and will be working on developing scaffolds for cornea regeneration.

April 2017:
Julia Fernandez was awarded funding by COST action BM1302 (Joining Forces in Corneal Regeneration) to undertake a Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) to Fondazione Banca delgi Occhi del Veneto Onlus in Italy.

March 2017:
Karl Kador leaves the Ahearne Lab to take up the position of Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at University of Missouri-Kansas City. We wish him all the best of luck.

January 2017:
The Ahearne lab attend the Bioengineering in Ireland conference held this year by Queens University Belfast. Karl Kador, Claire Kelly, Julia Fernandez and Sophia Masterton all presented while Mark Ahearne chaired a session on Biomaterials.

December 2016:
Amy Lynch has paper accepted for publication in Translational Science and Vision Technology entitled "Retinoic Acid Enhances the Differentiation of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells to Keratocytes In Vitro".

October 2016:
Members of the Ahearne lab attend the European Vision and Eye Research conference in Nice, France. Claire Kelly and Julia Fernandez both presented their latest research findings to interested audience. Karl Kador also presented a poster showing his work.

September 2016:
Congratulations to Amy Lynch who successfully defended her PhD thesis and will be awarded a PhD subject to minor corrections.

Sophia Masterton joins the Ahearne lab. She will be examining the role of mechanical stimuli on the behaviour of corneal epithelial cells.

Mark Ahearne appears on RTE news to discuss his research. The Ahearne Labs research was also highlighted in the Irish Independent newspaper.

July 2016:
Amy Lynch has paper accepted for publication in Experimental Eye Research entitled "Effect of growth factor supplementation on corneal stromal cell phenotype in vitro using serum free media"

April 2016:
Amy Lynch has paper accepted for publication in Tissue Engineering Part C entitled "Dextran preserves native corneal structure during decellularization"

January 2016:
Karl Kador, Julia Fernandez and Claire Kelly all presented their research at the 2016 Bioengineering in Ireland Conference. The meeting was held in Galway this year and was attended by researcher from all over Ireland.
