Oscillating Windows: Workshops *

A workshop was designed to observe emergent behavior in an environment where enforced cooperation leads to reward. A single image cut into many pieces to resemble packetized data was physically transmitted from one side of the room to the other by seven participants. Their behavior was constrained by a set of simple rule sets. Only when critical mass and team work was achieved could the image be completely transmitted. Until that critical point, the image remained in limbo, between both sides of the room.

Some very interesting behaviors began to emerge, as certain indiviuals would choose to aid or obstruct the pathway of data, making themselves physically accessible or inaccessible, creating a particular bodily configuration between themselves and others.
